Gallery2Aside from oil changes, what is the most important regular maintenance that affects the longevity of your motorcycles engine? You guessed it, its keeping a clean air filter.

Many have touted, and still debate, whether foam or paper air filters are better. Enduro riders may prefer these dual reticulation (two-stage) foam elements for powdery conditions. It’s said, outer small cell reticulation and a different second cell reticulation combine to improve overall air flow. The foam is flame resistant and, if desired, may be combined with a fire proof wire mesh.

The key to No-Toil's, two stage foam filter, is their high tech, ultra tacky filter oil. It’s stickier than any fly tack strip you’ve ever seen. In fact, it’s so sticky that you need to be careful or you might wind up tarring and feathering yourself when oiling the foam element. To offset this possible complication, No Toil also offers a "cleaner" for after the install. Both are patented biodegradable, environmentally safe chemicals, allowing regular filter maintenance to be done in a sink or basin.

Transitioning from a typical paper filter to the No Toil is wonderfully simple. No Toil offers replacement membranes for machines that come with stock filter elements for about $15.00. Additionally, they offer ‘kits’ which include a heavy duty plastic framework that holds the foam element in a contoured shape for servicing. After you’ve removed your paper filter, simply clip or bolt the new foam filter with frame in place.

Something one should remember with conversions like this is not forgetting the "base grease," included with the kit. Also please note the brightly colored notice within the packing box which reads "Due to increased air flow, re-jetting may be required to achieve maximum performance." When combined with an aftermarket exhaust pipe the cumulative improved flow will make a difference you can feel, and therefore jetting attention is a must.

No-Toils are available in several types for varying levels of filtration in different conditions. Check out their website for more product information concerning your individual application and pricing. Notoil.com MSRP: around $21.95 (depending on your bike) NoToil.com
