Thinking about upgrading the soft and squishy suspension that came on your bike? Maybe youre a heavyweight, or you ride a bit too hard for the existing stock valving, wobbling through turns and blowing through suspension travel. My first stop on the suspension upgrade train has taken me to Hyperpro.

If you have a new bike you may not want to dive in too deeply, but Hyperpro has a low budget workaround with their Combi Kit, which includes replacement fork oil, fork and rear springs.

The Hyperpro Combi Kit has been the best-bang-for-the-buck upgrade Ive done to my motorcycle. On the road, front end dive isnt nearly what it once was, and the bike feels safer and more planted. I pack heavily for camping and ADV events, but havent had to touch my rear spring preload adjuster since the upgrade. The springs are progressives, making for a subtle ride on the top end of suspension travel and a firm ride on the bottom end, reducing the chances of bottoming out.

But off-road is where my suspension needed the most help. After fully exhausting the stock suspension, the answer was clear, it needed heavier spring rates. Now Im able to push harder and faster over rutted two-track Jeep trails. In rocky conditions with holes that would normally bottom out, I now ride in and out with less difficulty.

Installation of the fork springs is fairly straightforward with basic mechanical skills. Adjustability is influenced by fork oil level/viscosity and spring preload. For the rear spring you may need to take it to a motorcycle shop with a spring compressor.

Back on the road your bike may ride a bit taller, mainly because the static spring sag will be closer to the optimal 30%, making usablesuspension travel more abundant.

Sometimes you have to ask yourself,Where do I stop?Im extremely happy with Hyperpro, my first stop on the suspension upgrade train, but this winter I may find myself a little farther down the tracks and a little deeper down the rabbit hole. MSRP: $269-375 Hyperpro.com
