You finally ride your brand new bike off the showroom floor and find yourself in the market for various aftermarket accessories. Often overlooked are the footpegs—a minor detail? On the contrary, for an adventure rider, this is where all of your body weight connects to the bike once you leave the pavement.

Knight Design has improved and extended their product line, and besides featuring the higher strength 7075 aluminum (as of summer 2017), the options for ride height are exactly what I was seeking to accommodate my 6′5″ frame for on- and off-road comfort.

Knight Designs FootpegKnight Design offers three peg height options: Stock, 7/8" lower, and 1-1/3" lower.

I had already found some relief after installing 2-inch bar risers, but the ergonomic feel was still off, both in the saddle and the standing position. Knight Design offers three peg height options: same as stock, 7/8 inches lowered, and 1-3/8 inches lowered.

The drop options may not sound like much, but they’re noticeable, especially on longer pavement stretches, allowing for a more relaxed sitting position. The tread options are a solid dual-sport Hunter, and a more aggressive Trakker. They performed equally well, although the Trakker might have the edge in muddy conditions. Either way, you’re going to love the extra real estate, and the 2 x 3.5 inches of foot area feel like a solid platform, escalating control and inspiring confidence. An added benefit of the additional space: These pegs will be much gentler to the soles of your boots than the hungry teeth of the OEM pegs.

Knight Designs Footpeg 2Multiple tread options are available, including the Hunter and more aggressive Trackker.

Also highly recommended: If you’re going lower than stock, get Knight Design’s lowered toe peg for the brake lever as well. This gives you the benefit of two usable foot brake steps, both for the standing and sitting positions. Don’t forget to adjust your shift lever, and you’re ready to roll. These products were tested on a 2017 KTM 690 Enduro R. Knight Design makes footpegs for a wide variety of makes and models, but not all options are available for all bikes. MSRP: $200 KnightDesignLLC.com
