Riders coming to dual-sport and adventure riding from the street may not have heard of Moose Racing. A force in motocross and enduro equipment since 1986, they’ve entered the adventure and dual-sport markets with luggage, apparel, and parts.

Moose Racing’s XCR Jacket and Pants are shells with no armor, nor provisions for any. If, like me, you wear exoskeleton-armor like knee braces and a body protector, good weather protection and abrasion resistance are all you need, and the XCR gear is just the ticket.

The jacket and pants are windproof, well vented (seven in the jacket, four in the pants), and breathable. After an hour in the heaviest rain I’ve ever ridden through (a real “frog strangler” of a Midwest thunderstorm), one of the jacket vents had allowed the barest hint of moisture through the zipper. I was very impressed, as any other gear I own would have left me drenched to the bone. Additionally, a couple of low-speed gravity events have left no marks at all on the fabric.

Stretch panels maintain a close fit, and the pants have leather inner knee and leg panels in case your leg gets a little too close to the pipe. High wear areas have heavier nylon reinforcement, and the jacket’s interior liner does a great job of wicking moisture away from the rider.

There are more pockets than you can shake a stick at, and features such as a microfiber goggle cleaning rag attached to one of the pockets. Then there’s the fact that the whole jacket will tuck into its own fanny pack so you can wear it around your waist on really hot days and did I mention pockets? I’m still finding new ones. A brief instruction sheet would be appreciated, or an expanded product description on the website.

The fit runs true—at 6′1″ and 200 pounds, the XL jacket and pants fit closely but comfortably over my knee braces and body armor. A great value—you owe yourself a look at Moose Racing’s gear. MSRP: Jacket $249.95 | Pants $219.95 MooseRacing.com
