“My bike brings me nearer to people and events of the far reaches of the world. It’s an unstoppable addiction that these priceless moments provide, but at a high personal demand.”—Bastian Brusecke
More tools are available to produce multimedia content than ever, but that doesn’t mean good storytelling is any easier. Visual storytelling requires being at the right place and right time to capture dramatic images and video. The best sew their experiences and material together into productions which are educational, informative, and meaningful on a personal level.

In the realm of adventure motorcycle media, few are better than Bastian Brusecke and Alessio Corradini of Rally Cool Photography. Rally Cool has been covering international rally races like the Hellas, Albania and Africa Eco Race for the past few years. One thing we’ve learned working with them is that covering races is one of the most demanding media jobs imaginable. Their new film published by Motoventure, Desert Camera, describes not only the technical difficulties of recording a race as it happens, but also the emotional impact it has on people both in front of and behind the cameras.
The challenge is to stay ahead of the racers in the most unique locations. Race photographers often follow in vans or trucks along the route. But to get the best shots, the team equips their own drone-hauling Frankensteined KTM 690s with camera gear to get them where the action is hottest.

Between dealing with the noise and sleepless nights of bivouac life, to leaving the morning before the racers start each day’s stage, recording the action and relationships of everyone involved is just as stressful for Rally Cool as the racing teams. There’s no rest for the international crew dealing with their own equipment maintenance, unpredictable plan changes and, more importantly, being surrounded by constantly unfolding stories of the racers and their struggles.
Desert Camera, and its portrayal of the 2017 Africa Eco Race, highlights not only the difficulties Rally Cool had capturing the event, but also the camaraderie of the international rally scene and riders from all over the world pushed to their very limits. ADVMoto will be releasing the film in five chapters over the course of five weeks. Although it’s free to watch, 75% of the advertising revenue will go to the Rally Cool team, so tune in and help keep Rally Cool rolling!
