Unlike some motorcycle adventure stories which focus on riding fast and breaking records, The Kindness Diaries by Leon Logothetis proves Kermit the Frog was right. Leaving the swamp is worth making millions of people happy.

Relying solely on the good will of strangers for a place to sleep, gas and whatever was needed, Leon embarked on his world journey from Los Angeles to Spain, Turkey, India, Thailand and Vietnam, finally landing back in North America in Vancover.

So what makes this journey different? Leon is actually independently wealthy and left the prosperous world of finance to take this trip. What a moocher, right? How can a guy with all this money and resources be travelling around the world on other peoples’ dimes? It’s actually all a splendid ruse. Throughout the series, Leon uses some of his wealth to furtively drop atomic bombs of kindness on those who had the least, but gave the most.

From sharing a porch with Tony in Pittsburgh, then surprising him with free housing and education, to working duties on a container ship or helping people regain eyesight, it’s all about opening your mind and heart to new experiences and changing peoples’ lives for the better.

His acts of kindness are too numerous to mention here and better understood by simply watching the series yourself. Leon broke the mold in another way as his story doesn’t talk about the bike, or riding, much at all. Aside from breakdowns or having to sleep in the sidecar, it's the least "motorcycle" oriented motorcycle adventure video yet. While it would have been nice to learn a little bit more about Kindness ONE (his ChangJiang 750 companion) and why he didn’t have proper rain gear or armor, in the long run that’s not what the story is about and ultimately made him more accessible to the people he encountered.

Regardless of whether you ride or not, The Kindness Diaries appeals to a wide audience and is currently fully available on Netflix. It’s a story about what we have in common as human beings and how helping others is not so different from helping ourselves. Although the series must have left a lot on the cutting room floor, watching Leon make his own Rainbow Connection not only confirms the magic of motorcycle travel, but may be an inspiration for the lovers, the dreamers and you.
