Unveiled as a concept bike at the 2019 EICMA show, Husqvarna’s Norden 901 stirred the proverbial ADV pot with its possible 890cc entry into the adventure motorcycle market. Filling a space between its sister company KTM’s 790 Adventure and the larger 1190 Adventure, the Norden 901 was just what the doctor ordered for many enthusiasts.
It is important to note, however, that the 901 was nothing more than a concept, which left a lot of doubt as to whether the Swedish brand would actually bring the Norden to market, and what the final product might look like. But now, thanks to a PowerPoint presentation posted online by Pierer Mobility AG, we get a look at the final product, or so it seems.
Listed under the Product Portfolio for the Husqvarna brand in the leaked document, we see the Norden 901 highlighted in the ‘Explorer’ category sandwiched between their ‘Enduro’ and ‘Dual Purpose’ offerings for the 2020 model year. Featuring an 890cc iteration of KTM’s parallel-twin powerplant used in the 790 Adventure, the Norden 901 seems more focused on long distance travel than overall off-road performance.
Additionally, we can expect the 2021 Norden 901 to carry a more substantial price-tag than its KTM 790 brethren, which are currently available for $12,700 MSRP. Why the price bump? Husqvarna was showcasing some interesting technological updates on the Norden they unveiled at EICMA, to include a Bluetooth integrated smartphone mount on the dash, as well as host of accessories such as upper crash bars, soft luggage, yellow LED auxiliary lights and more. And while the Norden 901 was set to debut at the 2020 EICMA show, which has been canceled, we do expect to see the final product within the next few months.

More interesting is a curiosity we found heavily blurred out model featured under KTM’s Product Portfolio for 2020. The bike is listed under the ‘Supermoto / Dual Purpose’ category, directly above the 690 SMC R. From what we can tell, the mystery motorcycle’s silhouette resembles the newly introduced 390 Adventure but has side extensions which reach further towards the headlight to reduce the “bug” like appearance some riders didn’t appreciate. This leaves us to speculate that perhaps KTM will be releasing a larger displacement iteration of the new light-weight ADV machine. A 490cc variant has been anticipated and would fill a vacant space in their lineup between the 390 and 790 models. Another possibility would be a 590-690 single-cylinder based adventure touring model. Either way, we're always happy to see more middle-weight motorcycle options. What do you think it will be?
