Casey Gunschel is a Chicago-based artist who rides a BMW F800GS. She likes technical dirt riding best, and practices her self-taught skills by tackling every potholed and broken-down alleyway the city has to offer.

Casey’s a leatherworker by trade who specializes in custom work for the interior design world. Snowed in last winter and looking for an interesting personal project, she covered her GS in hand-tooled leather with artwork inspired by the primitive and mystic Native American culture.

Over the course of two months she stretched, carved, glued and tooled the leather panels into place. The end result is a unique bike that has the look and feel of a beautifully weathered saddle. The only upkeep required is an occasional swipe of leather conditioner to restore its original shine.

Though most of her work is furniture-based, Casey’s personal tastes are more outdoors-oriented. She’s intrigued by the role art can play in functional design and interested in collaborating on other motorcycle and gear related projects. So, if you have a moto project you would like to discuss, please visit her website (below) and send a note.

We’re expecting Casey at the ADVMoto Rally next month (Sept. 18–20, Romney, WV), so be sure to sign up and join us! CaseyGunschel.com
