gallery3Using the slogan ‘If you can get hurt doing it, there’s a WFO Model for that” has certainly given Company President and designer, Al Gill a completely different outlook on the design and development of his range of unique caricature models. Gill began his design work after participating in many years of motorcycle racing and extreme activities and having the notion that other people would want to see a light-hearted artistic representation of an incident or event that left the participant shaken but only lightly stirred.

Whether it was motorcycle racing, adventure activities such as surfing or rodeo bull-riding in life-threatening events, the interest in capturing some of this spittle flecked, adrenaline driven madness remained the same. “I tried to capture as much of the split-second action as was possible on a static item, but still show the instantaneous drama that causes these participants to be in love with their sport, irrespective of the potential outcomes” says Gill.

Gill’s background in motorcycle racing goes all the way back to a small town in Australia in the ‘60’s, where he learned to slide a motorcycle around a dirt track at over 100 mph, throw himself willingly off a massive motocross jump and defy the odds of survival while cartwheeling down a beach well in excess of the legal speed limit.

A self-admitted lack of real artistic talent lead him to decide that he shouldn’t try to copy standard models, as the detail was well beyond his capabilities, rather he decided that he should simply try to make it look “somewhat like” the incident, event, or machine he was trying to capture – hence the artistic representations of the various items he has created.

While Gill’s models are not accurate copies of real motorcycles, they are still sufficiently accurate that even a layman can see the action and danger in the situation depicted through the WFO Model. The premise of the WFO Models, is that even a non-participant can enjoy the ride while having an unique and beautiful hand-made piece of artwork or mechanical themed sculpture in their home, man-cave or office at prices well below similar products from more mainstream artists and suppliers.

At the same time, the product is not a mass-produced poorly copied version of a real item, but is entirely hand crafted and designed piece by piece, before being a broken into multiple separate parts, cast together then hand painted. For that reason, no two models, even within the same model series are alike.

Included in the coming series are firefighters, surfers, skiers, snowboarders, more motorcycles including cruisers, tourers and racers, along with hockey players, crashed ice stars and a galaxy of motorized mayhem. Look for the WFO range at your nearest motorcycle retailer, gift shop or danger zone. For more information on the artist and the ever-expanding range of WFO artistic works go to wfomodels.com.
