As soon as the Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin was released, concepts and speculation began about a possible Africa Twin Rally model as well. Spidi provides Honda Powersports with technical apparel, so it was a perfect fit for a Spidi test rider to take Red Moto's Africa Twin Rally for a multi-day ride while testing some new clothing for their adventure touring collection.

Spidi's test rider reported a more powerful, nimble riding experience across everything from singletrack to sand and ruts. While it's still under development, the high fender, trimmed styling, and rally-tower-like instrument cluster gives the Rally a more aggressive look. If Honda follows their own path of the CRF250L and the new CRF250L Rally, we may see the big-bike version soon.

SPIDI AfricaTwin Rally 4The Honda Africa Twin Rally is still under development, but a Spidi test rider found it more off-road capable than the current Africa Twin without sacrificing comfort.

While technical data is limited, we do know that suspension is more dirt-oriented, the 21/18" wheels are more durable, and the Termignoni exhaust adds five horsepower. Weight savings total around 15 pounds thanks to carbon fiber parts.

This isn't an official production bike yet, but we can hope the Africa Twin Rally will grace showroom floors in the not-too-distant future. Is this the return of the super-bore enduro bikes like the BMW HP2 and KTM 950 Super Enduro R?
