Supporting Independent Motorcycle Media

I’ve had the honor of publishing ADVMoto since 2010 and over the years have seen many changes. A decade ago, adventure motorcycling was on the fringe of the industry in the U.S., and we didn’t have the selection of adventure motorcycles and dual-sports so common today. So why is it that with all this progress, so much of the media talent is leaving or gone?

Sadly, many moto-content creators can no longer support themselves, let alone earn enough to raise their families. This situation has forced those who were once pillars of our community to look elsewhere for employment, too often in unrelated industries.

Magazines, both print and digital, are disappearing. It’s not due to lack of talent or interest; rather motorcycling media’s most experienced creators, who love and support riding, can’t make survivable wages. So, is there hope in an industry facing the challenges of the firehose of free content, spiking production costs, and shrinking revenues? The answer is yes, and it is you and us working together.

You may not be aware of it, but your voice and choices have a tremendous impact. Aside from subscribing, the most effective and easiest thing to do is to let advertisers know you heard about them through ADVMoto. And let’s be clear, this is not just for ADVMoto but any independent media important to you. If you’ve learned, laughed, or loved because someone has put out good content, let them and others know.

Of course, this is a two-way street. It’s our responsibility to listen to your feedback and deliver the best of what you want to see. Just know that at ADVMoto, we never fail to take your observations and suggestions seriously.

Over a decade ago, I set up ADVMoto to be a center for inspiration, education, diversity, and empowerment. With the help of our staff, writers, advertisers, and our many proactive subscribers, we’ve managed to navigate the slings and arrows of commerce to be one of the few independent motorcycling print publications still standing.

The adventure is not over. On the contrary, after COVID, it’s only just begun again. The future of riding is strong. Nothing can replace it or even remotely compares to the experience of exploring the world on two wheels. Whether you consider ADV riding a lifestyle, sport, community, or business, your ideas and input remain key. Your perspective and participation will maintain healthy growth and help us provide the kind of content you need and want that inspires you.

No matter who you are, what you ride, or where you come from, ADVMoto wants to be there for you, helping to turn rocks into stepping stones. The success of more than ADVMoto is at stake. If we work together to promote the industry’s ecosystem, which includes providing livable wages for community-oriented creators and innovative content, the roads ahead will be more promising than ever!
