A new off road moto group for women, formed by ADV riding enthusiast, Erin Solano Cox, focuses on the importance of providing women with a safe and supportive environment to learn to ride while building a sense of connection with each other.

Cox began the Women's Off Road Moto Group last October after nine years of riding with her husband, Brian Cox, and their local moto community. “I loved the experiences I had with them and I was so grateful for all they taught me,” she says, “but I felt something was missing.” In this male-dominated sport, she says she longed to share those riding experiences with a community of women who enjoy the hobby as much as she does. “At the time, I’d hoped for maybe 4 or 5 women to join so I was blown away when I had some 50 women join my Women’s Off Road Moto Facebook page in just the first month.”

The group has now grown to over 75 members ranging in skill level from having never touched a motorcycle to experienced riders. As more women join, Cox continues her focus on making sure the women feel welcomed, safe and comfortable. “They want to know that, whether it’s their first time on a bike or just brushing up their riding skills, they’re not being judged.” According to Cox and her team, these women come from all walks of life seeking things like adventure, support, a sense of belonging, and even healing through learning to ride with women. For Cox, that is the point. Regardless of skill level, she encourages the women to come together in a place where they feel safe to learn, grow and refine their riding skills while connecting with each other in a supportive community. “Our group focuses on empowering women while guiding them to adventure with respect and fun.”

After only a few months of bonding through Wrench Nights, coaching, seat time, and family-style dinners, members are already getting their motorcycle temps, taking safety courses, earning their endorsements, and buying their first off road or dual sport motorcycles; things many of her group members admit they previously didn’t believe they could accomplish so quickly or they hadn’t realized so many other women were interested in.

The Women's Off Road Moto Group is also a servant-minded group, according to Cox. Both on and off the dirt they work to bring positive change in their communities. The group’s administrative team consists of professionals, wives, moms, wearing the many hats women do, who plan local events and find ways the group can build into the community through serving.

Members of the group gather regularly for various events, riding experiences, and wrench nights where Cox’s husband, Brian, lends his support by guiding them through the more challenging repairs and adjustments on their bikes. They were recently represented at March Moto Madness and the Stolen Pig Rally and are now finalizing plans to attend Mid-Ohio Vintage Moto Days, Wailin’ Wayne and Rib Fest this year.

Cox’s enthusiasm for the future of this group is made obvious as she says, “We have so much to look forward to and, although we’re still in our infancy, together we are mighty. We’re ready for the excitement and fulfillment we bring to each other and that riding together brings to us!”
